Hidden Treasure!

 

 

My biggies have always fantasized about finding some treasure so there was excitement at the weekend when digging out an old tree stump Mermaid discovered a coin.  Upon closer inspection we discovered it was in fact two shillings!  Cue much research into old coins and their values.  We discovered that two shillings was also referred to as a ‘two bob bit’ or a florin, you could purchase two portions of fish and chips with two shillings and it would have been a days take home pay for a Deputy Factory Manager (Don’t quote us as it depends on the year as to how much it would buy you).    Of course this led seamlessly into cleaning coins with lemon juice and salt, whilst pondering the coins story and how it ended up in our garden……
